Scott focuses his practice on helping businesses achieve their goals, avoid disputes, and if necessary, resolve disagreements both in and out of court in the areas of insurance coverage and recovery, construction, and business law.

Scott started his career defending insurance companies against claims of bad faith in Colorado state and federal courts. In connection with this experience, Scott regularly analyzed insurance coverage, prepared for and defended corporate representative and claim adjuster depositions, managed standard of care experts, litigated confidentiality and trade secret issues, successfully argued motions, and tried cases in state and federal court.

At Moye White, Scott leveraged his experience with insurance coverage and bad faith to co-found the firm’s Insurance Coverage and Recovery Group where he focuses on counseling clients regarding risk management, risk transfer, insurance procurement, coverage issues and related litigation. Scott’s experience representing large insurance carriers provides him with valuable insight to help his clients work through a variety of complex insurance issues.

Scott also counsels owners, developers, and construction professionals regarding commercial construction projects including contract review, contract drafting, insurance programs, and contract administration. When disputes arise on the project, Scott is dedicated to finding the most cost-effective solution, whether that includes, negotiation, mediation, arbitration, or trial. Scott is the co-author of the construction law chapter for Colorado Methods of Practice which covers almost all aspects of construction law in Colorado. Scott is also a co-author of the Colorado Bar Association Real Estate Forms Deskbook chapter on mechanics’ liens and has experience both pursuing recovery and defending matters involving mechanics’ liens.

In the area of real estate, Scott represents landlords and tenants in commercial lease disputes and eviction matters throughout Colorado. Because of his trial skills, Scott is regularly sought out to handle contested commercial eviction matters.

Scott also has experience finding creative and efficient solutions to a wide variety of other business disputes relating to contract disputes, theft of trade secrets, mineral right acquisitions, business ownership disputes, and commercial collection.

During his free time, Scott plays ice hockey with his team the Denver Crush and at various charity events. Scott also enjoys competing in triathlons and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
