Lorni Sharrow

Attorney

A fifth generation Coloradan, Lorni is passionate about family and legacy. She brings this perspective to her work as a trust and estate attorney and as a mediator. To achieve smooth succession for future generations, Lorni provides guidance to business owners, family offices, individuals, and married or partnered couples using estate planning tools, charitable vehicles, and business strategies to facilitate wealth preservation and values transfer. In estate administration, Lorni serves her clients efficiently and effectively through the process of implementing their loved one’s intent.

Lorni is particularly adept and sensitive to the financial and operational needs of nonprofit organizations, making use of 21 years working in the business of nonprofits and education. She serves as an advocate and counselor, advising on business structure, tax matters, business strategy, fiduciary responsibility, and gift structuring.

Lorni also serves closely held businesses. She translates her experience managing employees and businesses into a transactional employment practice, guiding business owners on the legal and practical issues of hiring and managing employees. Lorni works with clients to explore ways to create incentives for employees and business succession planning.

Representative matters
  • Estate Planning: In order to serve personal goals and protect assets, Lorni works with clients to select trustworthy people and give them the necessary authority to manage the clients' affairs when they are unable to do so themselves, notwithstanding the composition of their estate or the laws at that time.  Lorni works with clients to design and accomplish clients' charitable goals with tax efficiency and straighforward administration.

  • Estate Administration: Lorni worked with a Personal Representative to administer a nearly insolvent estate yet generated an inheritance through the effective management of assets and liabilities.

  • Business Continuity: Lorni conducted a legal audit of business operations as a first step in a business continuity plan, then advised the organization on a corporate structure to benefit the transfer of leadership and operations to successors.  Lorni worked with the stakeholders and the business operations to implement the plan efficiently and effectively.

  • Nonprofit Administration: Lorni serves as general counsel to a large nonprofit that serves a highly regulated industry, assisting the organization in their legal compliance in business, employment, and tax matters; industry laws, rules and regulations; and seeking and structuring joint ventures and other opportunities.
